The Appraisal Review Officer IV position is primarily responsible for ensuring that the real estate appraisal and evaluation program is safeguarded from internal influence and promotes compliance with regulatory appraisal regulations and guidelines. The position will administer the centralized appraiser selection process and will perform appraisal reviews in order to ensure appraisals are properly conforming and loans are predicated on prudent assessment of collateral value.

  1. Performs quality/substance reviews on commercial appraisals focusing on large or complex properties due to this position’s level of experience. Ensures properly prepared and supported appraisal reports which reflect conservative and realistic values. Assesses the adequacy, reasonableness and appropriateness of the methods, assumptions and techniques that were used in performing the appraisal. Recommends acceptance, revision or adjustment to value. Discusses discrepancies and recommended adjustments with Relationship Managers and Credit Admin management. Reports review conclusions through written reviews.
  2. Performs Quality Control (QC) reviews of other staff members work to ensure the reviewers are following departmental policies and that the reviews are accurate and of good quality.
  3. Administers the appraisal selection process and selects appraisers for assignments, ensuring assignments are commensurate with appraiser’s background, experience and certification. Engages appraisers for specific transactions commensurate with bid process and time constraints.
  4. Assists with loan officer training on real estate appraisal policy compliance. Interprets policy for officer inquiries and offers guidance on requirements for specific transactions and situations.

  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of commercial appraisal techniques and regulations, including USPAP.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of real estate lending practices and underwriting processes.
  • Advanced knowledge of federal banking regulation related to real estate lending practices and appraisal requirements.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Good PC skills including knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Excellent analytical ability.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
This level of knowledge is normally acquired through completion of a Bachelors Degree in Finance or related degree PLUS comprehensive commercial real estate appraisal experience or 12+ year’s equivalent work related experience. Certified General appraiser certification is preferred.
