The Chief Data Officer (CDO) is the senior executive who bears responsibility on behalf of the organization to foster value creation by means of the organization’s data assets and external data ecosystem. 

About the Role

In this role, you will evangelize data and leverage it as a business-critical asset; creating a culture of collaboration and accountability for data across business and technology areas, and assuring that data can drive additional value, opportunity, and differentiation in the market and customer experience. The CDO is responsible for aligning data policy and administration with relevant regulatory, legal and ethical mandates.

You will utilize data to improve all aspects of this organization, including risk management, regulatory compliance, product and service development, as well as marketing and sales growth initiatives.

How You'll Spend Your Time

  • You will explore the value of enterprise information assets and utilize analytics for decision-making and augmentation of human performance.
  • You will work with executive leaders and other key stakeholders to establish a vision and strategy for all data activities that both create value and reduce organizational risk.
  • You will lead the research, strategy creation and development of new data products or services to expand markets, monetize data and grow company revenue.
  • You will develop, manage, allocate and govern the annual budget for the office of the CDO.

DATA MANAGEMENT: You will have a detailed understanding of data management and governance concepts and principals.

INFORMATION MANAGEMENT: You will have knowledge of information management technology and experience in strategic planning, execution and policy.

BUSINESS PERSPECTIVE:  Your expertise is at the intersection of risk and driving business value.

TEAM BUILDING: You will coach others and help them develop their capabilities.

COLLABORATION: You serve as a bridge-builder and facilitator to create synergies between business and technology functions.

Education & Experience Requirements

The required level of knowledge acquired through completion of a Bachelors or Master’s Degree and 15 years’ equivalent work experience; or 20+ years of equivalent work related experience. Preferred: Ten years of management experience in a financial services function with backgrounds in technology and risk; five years of senior management experience including managing relationships with executive and senior officers and board members; five years of technical experience.

  • Understanding of data management and governance concepts and principals 
  • Knowledge of information management technology and experience in strategic planning, execution and policy
  • Understanding of third party risk management practices
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, building and managing a complex set of business relationships
  • Excellent communication skills including oral and written communication with executives, board members and outside constituencies
  • Excellent talent management skills including attracting, developing and retaining top talent as well as dealing with poor performance
  • Excellent strategic and tactical planning skills, laying out a long term vision for the managed functions and building tactical plans to achieve the desired outcome
  • Ability to create and implement thorough processes to meet and exceed regulatory requirementss
