Environmental Risk Manager

The Environmental Risk Manager serves as the environmental due diligence leader and expert for the organization. Works with senior leadership in Credit Administration and Special Assets Department to develop policy, programs and processes that ensure compliance with federal, state, county and bank regulatory requirements for environmental due diligence.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Lead the bank’s efforts regarding appropriate environmental due diligence. Ensure the Bank’s environmental due diligence processes includes prudent industry practices, regulatory requirements and bank underwriting policies. Recommend policy and procedure standards that mitigate risk when taking new real estate as collateral for loans or transfers into the Bank’s portfolio
  2. Oversees the process of selection and assignment of environmental risk assessment vendors (ERA) for real estate transactions. Sets and implements standards for evaluating and selecting individuals who may perform ERAs. Create and maintain BOKF’s list of approved environmental risk assessment vendors. Ensures list contains quality appraisers for all BOKF real estate markets
  3. Resolve service issues in order to reduce operational, reputational and credit risk. Review and prepare written reports on environmental site assessments ordered by or provided to BOKF to ensure compliance with policy and regulatory requirements. Ensure internal client service levels are appropriate to meet the Bank’s needs
  4. Responsible for monitoring emerging environmental federal, state and local regulatory changes or requirements. Develop, implement and maintain a risk assessment program that incorporates a Quality Assurance process for consultants, reviewers and vendors used in conducting environmental due diligence
  5. Provide advice and assistance to BOKF business leaders in implementation of BOKF’s environmental risk management policies

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • Ability to comprehend and understand the complexity of calculating risk and acceptable risk tolerances
  • Good analytical and investigative skills
  • Highly competent in verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to meet multiple critical deadlines and maintain constructive client rapport
  • Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer applications, such as Microsoft Office software products
  • Ability and willingness to travel intermittently for business, occasionally overnight
  • Excellent analytical ability and organizational skills
  • Proven management skills and leadership ability
  • Satisfaction of US Environmental Protection Agency’s Definition of Environmental Professional in the Federal Register 40 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 312 Standards and Practices for All Appropriate Inquiries (AAI)

This level of knowledge is normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Studies, Geology or Engineering, or equivalent education and related training, PLUS 10+ years of industry experience, including five years of managerial experience in a related field or position. At least two of years of this experience should have been in preparation and review of environmental site assessment reports
