The Loan Review Officer III The Loan Review Officer III performs loan reviews of complex loan types, leads reviews of the large or high-risk lending areas, and leads or assists in special projects including due diligence of an acquisition; responsible for the ongoing evaluation of the bank’s commercial loan portfolio quality and for measuring compliance with established policies, regulatory guidelines and sound lending practices; provides bank management and the Board of Directors with an evaluation of the risk and collectability associated with the commercial loan portfolio, as well as the stability of lending practices and activities; works under limited supervision and provides subordinates officers with functional guidance.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Evaluates credit risk of the commercial loan portfolio via annual reviews of all commercial lending departments, quarterly new underwriting reviews and participation in quarterly asset quality meetings. Credit risk assessment includes evaluating the financial position of borrowers in terms of prudent lending practices through financial/cash flow analysis and the application of credit principles and banking regulations. The goal is to identify problem loans or developing problem loans in a timely manner in order to minimize loan losses; typically involves review of larger, more complex loans or lending departments.
  2. Prepares written reports directed to lending department management, senior Credit Administration personnel, Chief Credit Officer and executive management summarizing overall review findings, including risk grade changes, impairment recommendations, and specific suggestions aimed at improving the quality of certain loans, the department’s lending practices, or compliance with lending policies.
  3. Other responsibilities include: assisting and/or guiding less experienced loan review officers; implements regulatory changes which includes writing new loan policies and develops necessary reporting procedures; reviews and assesses specific credits as requested by Senior Credit Administration personnel; provides training for Account Manager Development Program trainees or lenders at new acquisitions on credit and policy issues; assists and/or lead reviews of correspondent banks as needed.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting, credit analysis, financial analyses, lending practices, banking regulations, and Uniform Commercial Code.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of financial analysis including ratio, trend and cash flow analysis
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of commercial lending policy, procedures and loan documentation requirements.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills to prepare and present persuasive oral and written reports.
  • Excellent PC and spreadsheet software skills
This level of knowledge is normally acquired through completion of a Bachelors Degree in Finance or Accounting and 5+ years experience in loan review and analysis, or 10+ years of equivalent related experience.
