The Software Engineer II is primarily responsible for designing simple to moderate systems, and developing and supporting simple to complex systems for various business units throughout the bank and performing integration of applications through database and interface design and development.

  1. Technical Skills: Provides technical requirements/specifications for simple to moderate projects. Moderate projects may include multiple business lines, technologies, and infrastructures, and will be $100, 000 or less in budget. Develops simple to moderate batch scripts. Develops simple to moderate stored procedures. Develops software packages, web pages, and web sites. Develops simple Software Integration and data loads. Creates simple and complex reports from database repositories. Creates simple and complex installation packages. Employs RDBMS principles in the design of simple to moderate data structures.
  2. Application Support Skills: Diagnose and remediates problems. Performs root cause analysis. Develops and maintains application documentation. Defines and maintains application configuration. Executes application disaster recovery.
  3. Analytical Skills: Provides project estimates for simple to moderate projects. Moderate projects may include multiple business lines, technologies, and infrastructures, and will be $100, 000 or less in budget.
  4. Enterprise Architecture Skills: Architectural Governance, Employs IT Governance Policies. Employs Project Architecture Methodology. Employs Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) Policies, Manage Technology Assets, Employs Technology Standards. Project Activities: Constructs SOA Web Services. Employs architectural contracts.
  5. Relationship Management Skills: Manages the relationship between IS and the Line of Business management levels e.g., Supervisory (AVP, Officer), Management (VP, AVP)
  6. Project Management Skills: Plans and executes simple to moderate test scripts.

  • Understanding of basic and complex software security concepts
  • Working knowledge of simple to moderate job scheduling systems and how to create job schedules. Moderate job scheduling systems would include systems which run processes for a department
  • Awareness of Software Integration Systems e.g., webMethods, Tibco, SSIS
  • Understanding of RDBMS principles and tools e.g., Microsoft SQL Server
  • Understanding of simple to moderate technical infrastructure principles e.g., Windows Server, UNIX, Tomcat, IIS
  • Understanding of tiered environments e.g., Development, Test, User Acceptance, Production
  • Understanding of Technology Standards and concepts
  • Understanding of programming languages and frameworks e.g., Microsoft .NET, C##, Java, etc.
  • Understanding of Project Management methodology (basic framework, phases, artifacts, process, and project funding)
  • Understanding of Quality/Testing Methodologies
  • Understanding of Line of Business goals and objectives
  • Understanding of Architecture Governance
  • Understanding of the role of Enterprise Architecture
  • Understanding of the role of a Domain Steering Committee
  • Understanding of the use of Middleware Technology
  • Understanding of application disaster recovery
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
This level of knowledge is normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Computer Technology/Science, or a related field and 3-5 years experience in client/server design and development, web design and development, and database design development or 9-11 years of work related experience.
