The Special Assets II  position has a primary responsibility for management of troubled commercial loans, to better secure with collateral, equity, or other assets of the borrower, and other activities designed to preserve the loan principal, gather interest as possible, and prevent the loan from being charged off. Includes negotiation of payment structures with the customers to ensure repayment of loans, initiates litigation when necessary, inspects properties, and market properties for sale. Additionally, this position may handle other Credit Administrative responsibilities that serve to aid various lines of business.


  1. Monitors the repayment schedules of each commercial loan; contacts customers who have defaulted in repayment schedules to determine reason for overdue payments; ensures collection of monies which involves correspondence, phone calls, answering correspondence.
  2. Negotiates with customers and other associated parties in the relationship to ensure repayment of loans; restructures credit and repayment terms to better secure or attain additional equity, or otherwise establishes recourse to other borrower assets in effort to limit the bank loss.
  3. Provides administrative oversight and review of an early warning system platform for a portfolio of Consumer and Business Banking-originated, scored (non-judgmental underwriting) loans, including implementation of system and process workflow changes necessary to further improve performance. This may include regular communication with certain LOB administration.
  4. Determines when litigation is appropriate; monitors ongoing litigation; testifies during various stages of proceedings. Manages bank owned assets of various categories which includes budgeting for their maintenance and ensuring that their value is preserved. Responsible for marketing of real estate assets with the goal of maximizing net sales proceeds.
  5. Coordinates with tax, legal, audit, credit/loan policy, and regulatory officials to ensure compliance with legal and organizational requirements; keeps informed of applicable laws and regulations affecting asset management.




  • Excellent and understanding of business lending procedures and common errors encountered
  • Thorough knowledge of loan documentation and perfection requirements
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
  • Excellent PC skills
  • Excellent knowledge of the litigation process under county, state, and federal systems
  • Excellent ability to negotiate in both cooperative and hostile environments

This level of knowledge is normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s Degree and 7+ years of experience in special assets management.
