The Collateral Specialist II is primarily responsible for preparing lien release documents for paid in full accounts for Consumer and Commercial portfolios by analyzing commitment/worksheets, loan systems, new, renewed and amended loan/collateral documentation in order to 1) release liens against perfected collateral, and 2) to comply with internal bank policies as well as, state and federal regulations. Also advises lending staff on documentation issues and ensures proper approval for partial release transactions. Collateral Specialist must have the ability to type 50-100 satisfactions per day. Notarize and sign documents based on state/jurisdiction compliance. Understand service levels within department and internal compliance standards including Reg A&B. Cross training heavily exercised to allow adaptability within all functions within the Collateral Services department.

  1. Determines appropriate actions to be taken to ensure proper release of all collateral items: including forwarding transfers of liens, mortgages, and UCC’s to the appropriate recording agencies to be filed of record; ensures holds are removed on CD’s, possessory collateral is properly dispensed, and obtains acknowledgements and assignments.
  2. Analyzes commitment/loan worksheets, note, loan and security agreements for lien release/paid in full transactions including renewals and/or collateral amendments; determines all necessary documentation required for each transaction; advises commercial lenders on various documentation, legal, or policy issues that may affect the banks collateral position; strives to seek solution to avoid potential collateral lien weaknesses.
  3. Ensures proper approval of loans and adherence to policies; ensures loans are closed in exact accordance with the approved commitment; enters all follow-ups and exceptions into the WITS exception tracking system.

  • Working knowledge of loan recording/release requirements for multiple states
  • Working legal knowledge of documentation requirements for loans to individuals and legal entities
  • Working knowledge of the Uniform Commercial Code, Regulation B, C, Z, RESPA, Fair Credit Reporting Act, and other federal and state regulations on lending and consumer compliance
  • Working knowledge of typical commercial and consumer lending policies
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent PC skills including word processing and spreadsheet applications
  • Must be able to work independently, adapt to a multi-task environment and work well under pressure; detail oriented
This level of knowledge is normally acquired through an Associate’s Degree in Business along with 3-5 years of experience in loan processing; or 6-8 years equivalent experience.
