Job Description

The Senior Quality Assurance Specialist is an advance level position responsible for quality assurance loan reviews by the Mortgage Quality Assurance department as well as performing various internal reviews.  The position requires a subject matter expert in underwriting complex residential mortgage loans with knowledge and experience in evaluating mortgage risk associated with all lending channels.  The objective of quality assurance is to improve investment file quality, mitigate risk, document accuracy, ensure adherence to critical regulatory guidelines and reduce errors.

How You'll Spend Your Time

  • You will review mortgage loan files to ensure compliant, well‑documented underwriting and overall loan quality.
  • You will analyze complex documentation to assess salability, fraud risk, and adherence to bank, investor, and regulatory requirements.
  • You will conduct full‑file, targeted, and pre‑funding reviews while validating data accuracy and corrective actions.
  • You will prepare reports and monitor pipeline performance, trends, and quality metrics using investor‑approved sampling.
  • You will identify risk areas and recommend process, compliance, and training improvements based on QA findings.
  • You will support underwriting and management by clearly communicating results, staying current on guidelines, and responding to audits.

Education & Experience Requirements

This level of knowledge is normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s degree and 4-7 years mortgage loan underwriting experience or 11-13 years related experience in mortgage loan production.

  • Extensive knowledge of residential lending practices and procedures and compliance regulations.
  • Thorough knowledge of mortgage underwriting procedures, policies, guidelines and regulations.
  • Thorough knowledge of credit, income and asset analysis and property review and valuation requirements.
  • Advanced understanding of processing, underwriting and closing procedures. Understanding of processing, underwriting and closing procedures.
  • Advance underwriting knowledge of mortgage investor’s guidelines to include; Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, RD, VA and Section 184. Excellent analytical and problem solving abilities. 
  • Must be able to analyze, compile data and present reports to management.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance Guidelines. Proficient PC skills including word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving abilities.
  • Ability to apply sound credit risk principles and practices in making quality assurance review final decisions.
  • Ability to discern misrepresentation and fraud in all aspects of the originations process.
  • Self-motivated with high degree of attention to detail.
  • Good understanding of basic accounting principles.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a competent and professional manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including oral and written communication skills and customer relations skills with leadership ability.
  • Proficient PC skills including word processing and spreadsheet applications.
