Job Description

The Credit Products Underwriter II - Energy is primarily responsible for underwriting complex financial transactions, including the financing of investment real estate, owner-occupied real estate, working capital, equipment, and LBOs/acquisitions.  In addition, the Credit Products Underwriter is responsible for providing product and industry expertise to the client by designing and executing solutions on more complex clients. The CPU will have client facing responsibilities, providing the necessary consultation to deliver the best possible integrated solution to the client.  The majority of the CPUs time will be balanced between analysis of clients, design and execution of deals, and joint client calls with RMs to provide advice.  The Credit Products Underwriter will partner with the RMs to assist in generating revenue and profitability.

How You'll Spend Your Time

  • The majority of your time will be spent conducting the credit analysis to finance multiple business endeavors, including; upstream and midstream oil & gas assets.
  • Your day will consist of credit conversations, decision making, and communication with Relationship Managers and credit leadership.
  • You will work efficiently to get deals approved while mitigating risk.
  • You will prepare commitment reports for all of the multi-state markets supported by the lending center.
  • You will participate in joint calling on prospects to gather key information for proper credit analysis.
  • You will work through credit documents with Relationship Managers to effectuate new and existing loans.

Education & Experience Requirements

The required level of knowledge is normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s degree and 5-7 years Credit Analysis/Credit products underwriter experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of intermediate accounting theory, including the difference between GAAP and income-tax based statements, cash and accrual accounting, consolidation and elimination principals, and the effect each type of accounting has on the underwriting process
  • Ability to clearly communicate and convey information and ideas through a variety of channels
  • Ability to leverage a network of relationships with clients, relationship managers, and peers for support in achieving both the individual and organizational goals 
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of credit principles, lending functions, loan analysis, and application of general credit policies 
  • Excellent organizational skills and meticulous work habits
  • Ability to critically review work for errors and incorrect conclusions
  • Ability to complete assignments quickly and efficiently with minimal direction
  • Ability to proactively communicate with both colleagues and senior personnel
  • Conflict management skills
  • Ability to work efficiently under limited timeframes
  • Extensive knowledge of loan documentation, loan policy and regulations
  • Extensive knowledge of the Loan Grading Process
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Advanced PC and spreadsheet software skills
