Job Description

The SBA Business Development Officer’s primary responsibility is to individually identify and close SBA loan opportunities.  Secondary responsibilities are to facilitate additional opportunities identified by the Commercial Banking Relationship Manager team (in all markets) through the sales/closing process, refer ancillary sales opportunities for SBA relationships, and educate the Commercial Bankers on BOKF SBA Lending capabilities footprint-wide.  This individual will also be responsible for establishing networking relationships within the BOKF footprint to develop high quality SBA 7(a) and 504 loans and full banking relationships via referral sources to all bankers.  The SBA BDO must directly source and originate SBA 7(a) and 504 loans from their local community, in addition to supporting the Commercial Banking RM’s with their SBA 7(a) and 504 opportunities. 

The SBA BDO will be responsible for assisting all bankers in the following areas; structuring, eligibility determination, creating opportunity memos, LOIs and commitment letters, credit process, presenting loan options to client and assisting in closing of loans. 

The SBA BDO will not maintain a customer portfolio but will be charged with engaging a Commercial Relationship Manager early in the client discovery process to ensure the successful transfer of the loan relationships to a Relationship Manager and facilitate the sale of additional non-credit products.  

The BDO will serve as the subject matter expert for the LOB regarding the alignment of Commercial Lending Policy and the SBA Standard Operating Procedures.  The SBA BDO will propose augmentations/amendments to Commercial Lending Policy as needed to maintain compliance with the SBA.

How You'll Spend Your Time

  • You will demonstrate high prospecting and sales aptitude through meaningful individual sales production.
  • You will interview loan applicants, analyzing financial data to determine creditworthiness and loan merits.
  • You will be proficient in SBA forms and requirements, assisting applicants through the approval process.
  • You will establish and negotiate credit terms, including costs, repayment, and collateral requirements.
  • You will develop training materials and ensure bankers are updated on SBA products and lending changes.

Education & Experience Requirements

This level of knowledge is normally acquired through completion of a  ­­­­­­­­­­Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Finance, or related field of study and 10+ years of directly related experience in SBA Lending and/or 10+ years of experience in Commercial Banking.

  • Must have a well-established group of referral sources within the business community.
  • In-depth knowledge of general Banking principles and regulations.
  • Broad knowledge of a variety of businesses.
  • Good working knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel and Banking systems.
