Job Description

The Credit Risk Manager- Commercial, is primarily responsible for providing advice and counsel on proper loan structure and underwriting to Commercial Banking Managers and account officers in all markets. The other primary responsibility is to review and approve loan requests that are within the position’s established loan authority.  Responsibility also includes the management and coaching of direct reports within the underwriting center(s) on education and training.

How You'll Spend Your Time

  • You will evaluate and approve Commercial Bank loan requests within your assigned lending authority.
  • You will lead, coach, and develop underwriters and junior approval officers to support growth and consistency in credit standards.
  • You will advise lending officers and managers on loan structures, collateral, covenants, and recommended enhancements to support credit quality.
  • You will review loan requests delegated by the Credit Services Delivery Officer and assist with special projects as needed.
  • You will help coordinate and develop policies and procedures that support Commercial Bank lending operations and controls.
  • You will interpret, enforce, and recommend improvements to Commercial Bank loan policies and underwriting guidelines.

Education & Experience Requirements

This level of knowledge is normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting and 10+ years of commercial and/or private banking lending and underwriting in a centralized underwriting environment; 5+ years of loan approval experience in commercial lending; or 16+ years of equivalent work related experience.

MBA in Finance or Accounting preferred, but not required when work experience mitigates such.

  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of accounting and credit principles, lending functions, and credit loan analysis
  • Comprehensive/In depth knowledge and understanding of Commercial and Private Bank lending policy, procedures and loan documentation requirements.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Loan Grading Process
  • Excellent analytical skills regarding loan/credit policy
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • PC and spreadsheet software skills
