Job Description

The Audit Team Lead – Compliance provides an objective evaluation of internal controls, risk management and governance processes through the assessment of operational efficiency, financial reporting, and compliance with legal and regulatory standards as well as detecting, investigating and deterring all types of fraud.   In executing the responsibilities of this position, the incumbent collects, examines and analyzes detailed policies, reports, financial statements, operating procedures and processes for audits related to compliance with lending, deposit, operational and fiduciary regulations which vary in degree of complexity and which require a high order of analytical, interpretive, and/or constructive thinking in varied situations covering multiple areas of the Bank.

The incumbent’s work incorporates auditing standards, guidance and frameworks issued by the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) and the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission (COSO), as well as state and federal banking regulatory agencies, including, but not limited to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and the Federal Reserve.

How You'll Spend Your Time

  • You will conduct comprehensive audits of varying complexity across multiple areas of the bank, employing high-level analytical skills to assess business processes through the examination of documents such as policies, reports, and financial statements.
  • You will manage the duties of several concurrent audits that have been assigned to you.
  • You will need to have discretion to vary from established procedures.
  • You will independently conduct audits with minimal supervision, having the flexibility to deviate from standard procedures to effectively meet audit goals.
  • You will leverage your extensive knowledge and experience to suggest modifications to processes and systems, aiming to reduce risk, enhance performance, and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • You will independently document audit findings, including internal control weaknesses and other issues, with minimal supervision.
  • You will set engagement goals, develop risk-based test plans, and create budgets and staffing plans under the guidance of your manager and senior team members,
  • You will utilizes knowledge and experience to influence and guide other team members.
  • You will propose solutions to challenges that surface during audit engagements.
  • You will present the audit plan, findings, recommendations, and conduct exit interviews with relevant bank personnel.
  • You will assist or lead the audit team in post-audit follow-up activities to ensure resolution of identified issues.
  • You will scrutinize the work of your colleagues to guarantee that both the audit engagement and the report are executed promptly, efficiently, and with precision
  • You will undertake special assignments as instructed by leadership and investigate contemporary industry, financial reporting, and regulatory matters to enhance your knowledge and identify trends.

Education & Experience Requirements

The required level of knowledge is normally acquired through a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or related discipline in addition to 3 to 6 years related experience. 

  • In-depth knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Generally Accepted Auditing Standards, Public Accounting Oversight Board Standards, and Sarbanes-Oxley
  • In-depth knowledge of Compliance regulations (Consumer Compliance Audit) or Fiduciary and Securities regulations: 12 CFR 9, 12 CFR 12, Trust Indenture Act, ERISA, Transfer Agent Rules, Investment Advisers Act of 1940, Securities Exchange Act of 1934, FINRA and Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board (Wealth Compliance Audit)
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of banking rules, regulations, and operations
  • Ability to define a wide variety of abstract and concrete problems, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
  • Strong ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written information and respond to questions in-person as well as small group situations
  • Strong ability to effectively plan time, method, manner and sequence of own work assignments as well as those of a team of employees assigned to moderately complex audits
  • Advanced Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills
