Job Description

The BSA/AML Investigation Specialist I is responsible for supporting the organization’s compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), and related regulations. This role involves monitoring, analyzing, researching, documenting, and reporting activities and transactions that may be subject to regulatory requirements. The position is critical for protecting the company’s reputation by ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, identifying and escalating suspicious or unusual activity, and supporting the effectiveness of the organization’s suspicious activity monitoring and reporting systems. The BSA/AML Investigation Specialist I utilizes automated systems, maintains accurate records, and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance and mitigate risk.

How You'll Spend Your Time

  • You will review transactions and alerts for potential compliance or sanctions concerns and ensure timely resolution.
  • You will analyze alerts, document findings, and escalate issues when additional review is needed.
  • You will investigate suspicious activity, conduct research, and report concerns appropriately.
  • You will maintain accurate records and reporting to support audits, examinations, and regulatory requirements.
  • You will collaborate with internal teams to provide guidance and strengthen compliance procedures and controls.
  • You will identify trends and recommend improvements to monitoring systems, reporting processes, and compliance effectiveness.
  • You will support regulatory filings, customer activity reviews, special projects, and other BSA/AML compliance initiatives.

Education & Experience Requirements

An associate’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required, along with 1–2 years of experience in a financial institution or related field—preferably with exposure to BSA/AML, suspicious activity monitoring, or customer due diligence—and a commitment to completing at least two hours of monthly continuing education on industry-related topics or role-specific technical skills.

  • Knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act, AML, OFAC, USA PATRIOT Act, and related regulations.
  • Understanding of bank operations, compliance policies, and best practices.
  • Proficient in using PC software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and internal systems.
  • Excellent analytical, research, and reasoning skills; ability to interpret information, detect patterns, and draw conclusions.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize work.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, regulated environment.
  • Ability to leverage AI, automation, and advanced technology to enhance analysis, decision making, and efficiency, while applying sound professional judgment and accountability for outcomes.
  • Comfort working with data, automated outputs, and digital tools to interpret information, identify patterns or emerging risks, and support clear, well reasoned conclusions.
  • Understanding of responsible AI principles, including appropriate use, limitations, transparency, and the importance of human oversight in risk based decisions.
