The Database Administrator is primarily responsible for administering the database systems and technology associated with implementing and maintaining client/server and web-based software and systems for BOKF, which includes administering centralized database servers, database servers utilized in providing call center functionality, and database servers located in branches and other offices; administers both hardware and software aspects associated with providing reliable database services and support throughout BOKF.


  1. Implements the logical and physical database design as prescribed by vendors in the installation and implementation of packaged software purchased by BOKF, which includes device allocation and creation and running necessary scripts to create tables, indexes, triggers, views, rules, stored procedures, etc.; consults with vendors, Technical Services, and users to ensure that the database is implemented and performing in accordance with technical requirements and business needs.
  2. Creates the logical and physical database design for systems developed in-house for BOKF units and entities, which includes device allocation and creation and developing and running the necessary scripts to create tables, indexes, triggers, rules, rules, views, stored procedures, etc.; consults with software developers, Technical Services, and users to ensure that the database is implemented and performing in accordance with technical requirements and business needs.
  3. Performs structured testing of database design, applications, and technology for purchased and in-house developed applications; verifies that the data base architecture will perform acceptably and reliably in the BOKF local and wide area network environments.
  4. Administers database security to ensure that corporate data is only available on a “need to know” basis and consistent with the needs of employees in the successful performance of their jobs within BOKF, which involves using security features and functionality within the database software, as well as utilizing operating system security.
  5. Ensures that databases are consistently backed up and recoverable from user errors, system malfunctions, and short or long-term physical disasters, which includes using both integral database tools and standard system backup software.
  6. Conducts both hardware and software capacity planning in anticipation of database growth needs.
  7. Performs performance tuning of database hardware and software to minimize resources required and optimize database performance.
  8. Evaluates database hardware and software to ensure that the correct hardware and software are utilized in the fulfillment of BOKF’s database needs.
  9. Develops policies, standards, and procedures related to the administration and use of the database environment for BOKF.




  • Extensive knowledge of relational database systems used in Client/Server and Web-Based Applications development for deployment across a Wide Area Network environment
  • Advanced knowledge of application development tools that use relational database and client/server technology
  • Thorough knowledge of front end query systems, especially Structure Query Language and its vendor specific dialects
  • Working knowledge of data modeling tools and techniques
  • Working knowledge of general business operations, preferably in a bank environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including oral and written communication skills

This level of knowledge is normally acquired through completion of a Bachelors Degree in Business, Computer Technology/Science, or a related field and 6-8 years experience in client/server development and/or database design and management or 12-14 years equivalent work related experience.
