The Director, Corporate Communications is responsible for developing and executing proactive communication strategies that align with, support, and enhance the goals and objectives of BOK Financial Corporation. Reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer, this senior level position manages, motivates, and develops corporate communications staff; oversees external media outreach; sets the tone of content for the company’s intranet; develops innovative content strategies to keep employees engaged; develops government relations strategy and oversees political action committee; in conjunction with CEO, develops and executes executive communications strategy. Develops key strategies and executive briefings for executive and senior leadership, including interacting with executive leadership team, news media, internal personnel, outside vendors, legislators and lobbyists, and community organizations.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Manage corporate communications department. Ensure all internal clients are being well-served and the team is executing against communications plans that support the company’s business objectives. Manage, motivate, and develop staff and help them advance their careers at BOK Financial. Ensure adequate resources are available to meet the company’s communications objectives
  2. Lead the company’s public relations initiatives. Develop and execute corporate media relations strategy to provide positive, credible exposure for the bank, its products and services, and its senior leadership; manage external communication with local, national, trade and other specialty media that enhances and supports the Banks’ values and objectives; serve as a primary contact for media inquiries. Recommend and manage vendor relationships. Assist with crisis communications and crisis planning
  3. Oversee internal communications. Utilize communications techniques to better connect executives with employees.  Ensure communications team delivers engaging content that educates and informs employees about business initiatives, company financial results and strategic direction, community involvement, and benefits and compensation practices
  4. Lead Executive Communications: Work with the company’s CEO to communicate his vision and strategy to employees. Plan and coordinate biennial executive communications programs such as the executive road show and the employee recognition program. Provide support to, prepare, and coordinate presentations for the CEO and other members of senior management team
  5. Manage legislative affairs. Oversee PAC fundraising efforts and ensure that PAC expenditures are aligned with broader policy objectives of the corporation. Manage relationships with legislators and lobbyists, ensuring that the company’s interests are represented at the federal and state legislative levels

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • Executive presence; ability to interact comfortably with employees at all levels of the organization, including C-suite executives
  • Demonstrated ability to generate earned media publicity with print, broadcast and online outlets, including national media outlets
  • Understanding of complex business and financial concepts; financial industry experience and exposure to investor relations preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, and Crisis Communications
  • Very strong knowledge of AP-style copywriting
  • Strong familiarity with social media fundamentals

This level of knowledge is normally acquired through at least 10 yrs experience in the communications department of a for-profit company, or at least 10 yrs of experience at a public relations firm or communications consultancy representing for-profit companies, as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications, or Public relations; or 15+ years of equivalent education/experience. MBA degree and some exposure to investor relations preferred
