The Disaster Recovery Architect is a high-impact individual contributor with primary responsibility for high-level network, systems, and storage infrastructure planning, design and optimization related to the disaster recovery and business technology resiliency requirements for BOK Financial. This position is crucial to envision and oversee implementation of a resilient, technical architecture, leveraging world-class technologies, which enables BOK Financial to deliver premier financial products to customers nation-wide regardless of environmental hazards, local infrastructure failures, or crisis events. This role interfaces with end users, enterprise and security Architecture/Engineering professionals, and senior IT leaders. The architect must be able to partner with leading technology providers to envision the future, including network, storage, compute, telecommunications, colocation partners and cloud providers.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Develops strategies and direction for Disaster Recovery and Business Resiliency solutions using current and emerging technologies. Teams with the Director, IT-DR to develop a multi-year playbook that defines strategies and roadmaps to deliver a technical environment capable of meeting or exceeding recovery objectives as set forth by business partners. Leverages knowledge from internal colleagues, external providers, industry best practices, outputs from consulting engagements, and/or other valued sources to improve the technical environment. Evaluates and recommends new products, maintains knowledge of emerging technologies and assists with development and management of the corporate DR planning system.
  2. Translates project or regulatory business requirements into Disaster Recovery and process designs. Possibly take a leadership role as project leader from special enterprise-wide assignments related to Disaster Recovery or Business Resiliency initiatives. Collaborates with Enterprise Architecture, Information Security, Business Continuity, and Business Analysts to develop DR elements for new technology projects or existing technologies within the enterprise. Plans and recommends Disaster Recovery hardware, systems management software, and architecture for all projects or initiatives with a Disaster Recovery element. Approves and modifies Disaster Recovery infrastructure design and architecture to ensure regulatory and business requirement compliance.
  3. Helps develop/maintain annual Disaster Recovery testing exercise process. Presents annual Disaster Recovery exercise results and implementing corrective actions as needed. Defines the architecture to strengthen high-availability and resiliency of BOKF applications and services to meet or exceed requirements.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • Expert/Lead technical role and capable of coaching and mentoring junior technical staff regarding Disaster Recovery functions and requirements across the enterprise
  • Advanced knowledge, understanding experience with a wide variety of industry standard infrastructure hardware, tools, and software
  • Familiarity with IT terminology, technical concepts, and DR planning considerations such as backup and recovery, replication, and redundancy
  • Maintain recovery planning documentation as it relates to infrastructure systems design, configuration, support, and processes

This level of knowledge is normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Technology/Science and typically has 7 to 10 years of diverse IT work experience such as technical system support and/or network administration or 10-14 years of related experience in an enterprise IT engineering environment with an emphasis, or specific focus, on Disaster Recovery related infrastructure planning and management.
