Enterprise Data Architect

An Enterprise Data Architect is a strategist and trusted advisor for project portfolios and data platforms across an enterprise. This position contributes to the company by being a change agent and leading transformations in treating data as an enterprise asset. They are charged with helping design target state architectures for structured and unstructured data in an innovative, collaborative fashion. The goal of this position is to improve manageability, effectiveness, efficiency, and agility of both structured and unstructured data in order to have greater alignment between IT and the needs of the business.


  1. Identifies future state, assesses current state, identify gaps between the two, and provide signature-ready recommendations to close those gaps. They then work with other architects to develop and deliver conceptual, logical, and physical data architectures and designs that are in direct alignment with the data needs of the business. They research innovative approaches to solutions and create prototypes to prove out ideas. They contribute to IT Governance policies regarding data, effectively using these policies when vetting and architecting solutions. They not only focus on IT innovations, they may also focus on data structures or data processes of an organization, integration and standardization of business processes, and improving the data quality and timeliness of information. Lastly, they help design and implement metrics for data for Key Risk Indicators and IT Governance frameworks.
  2. Strategic partner and trusted advisor to projects and domains across the enterprise providing strategic, architectural, and technical leadership. They help bridge the gap between IT and the business to provide better alignment. They also provide technical leadership to a project's architect and development team ensuring solutions integrate well with the existing or defined IT architecture and meet defined technical performance requirements.
  3. Take a mentor role by sharing architectural and technical knowledge with other architects and development teams. They train others in new data-related technologies, especially those identified in prototyping and proof of concepts.
  4. Focus their development on prototyping and proof of concepts that are specific to a business need or a gap in getting to a target state.


  • Deep understanding of data warehousing concepts, including complex data structures, data transformations and data analytics
  • Knowledge of leveraging unstructured data including imaged documents, 3rd party data, web traffic data, etc.
  • Knowledge of enterprise architecture design concepts
  • Knowledge and experience with successfully navigating large, complex projects
  • Knowledge and experience with system integration techniques and patterns
  • Knowledge and experience with system modeling and diagramming approaches
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Understand information security and industry security best practices in regards to data
  • Experience with multi-platform, distributed application implementations
  • Demonstrated experience consistently delivering high quality work
  • Experience with Agile, Six Sigma, or SDLC methodologies

This level of knowledge is normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, 12+ years of technical experience and 7+ years of architectural experience with multi-platform, distributed applications. Additional experience can be used in lieu of a degree. Architecture certifications are strongly preferred. It is also preferred that the candidate have Banking and Financial Service experience.
