The Equity Research Analyst position is primarily responsible for supporting the research efforts of the fundamental equity portfolio management team. The position requires a highly motivated, technically trained person who can analyze, interpret, and develop a conclusion based on a company’s publicly available financial information. The position will be required to present and defend his/her investment conclusions on investments held or being considered for the portfolios we manage.

  1. Develops familiarity with fundamental stock research, industry research, and sector analysis. The position requires reading sell-side investment reports, and using those reports, as well as other publicly available information to gain an understanding of industries and companies within those industries.
  2. Collects, organize, interpret, and analyze date for selected industries and companies. This will require analyzing balance sheets, income statements and statements of cash flows. A high degree of technical financial and accounting knowledge is required as the position requires reading and interpreting 10Ks and other public filings of public companies.
  3. Interacts with sell-side analysts, senior management, and investor relations officers of target companies. The position will require the ability to quickly gather, interpret, and make preliminary conclusions on data so as to be able to hold meaningful discussions with sell-side analysts and management of companies.
  4. Ability to clearly present new ideas and conclusions to fundamental equity team. Though this will be under the supervision of the fundamental equity team portfolio managers, this will require a significant amount of independent thought, as well as a high level of self-motivation. It also requires significant ability to balance multiple tasks as equity markets are fast-moving and require constant adjustment. Because much of this work is subjective, the candidate must be able to adapt to a dynamic work environment.

  • Strong academic performance – prefer 3.5+ GPA.
  • Solid financial modeling and spreadsheet skills.
  • Strong comprehension of financial statement and accounting guidelines.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills is required.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Must be a strong self-starter and able to work well independently.
  • Natural curiosity and independent/creative thinking is a must.
This level of knowledge is normally acquired through completion of a Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance and 0-2 year relative work experience or 6-8 years equivalent work experience. Additional certification/schooling also likely necessary to perform the role at an acceptable level. Preferred: CFA candidate, MBA and/or CPA
