Job Description

The IT Portfolio Manager is responsible for the management of the entire collection of projects and/or programs undertaken by an organization or division in a manner that ensures their alignment with the organization’s strategic objectives.  This position is also responsible for compiling metrics relating to IT project success, project attributes, and individual productivity and adherence to the defined project management process.

How You'll Spend Your Time

  • You will manage your portfolio via established process in collaboration with stakeholders to continuously review, update and optimize your portfolio and ensure compliance.
  • You will communicate results of the It portfolio selection decision and prioritization to our stakeholders to ensure organizational alignment.
  • You will monitor your portfolio by reviewing key performance indicators to address performance issues and strategic alignment.
  • You will serve as a resource to Project Managers and Project Leaders to assist with implementing project management processes and making improvements.

Education & Experience Requirements

This level of knowledge is normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, related discipline with an information technology focus; 7-10 years of experience in project management which includes at least 3 years experience in the information technology or 13-16 years related business experience.  Prior experience in financial services industry is preferred.  Preference: PMP (Project Management Professional).

  • In-depth knowledge of portfolio management methodologies and tools, including prioritization, optimization, monitoring and reporting.
  • In-depth knowledge of project management methodologies and tools, resource management practices and change management techniques.
  • In-depth knowledge of plan development and execution, scope planning, schedule development, cost estimating, budgeting, and control, quality planning assurance, organizational planning, communications planning, risk identification and risk response control.
  • Extensive knowledge of the software development process, including requirements gathering, analysis and design, development tools and technologies, release and version control, contemporary testing methodologies, and deployment management
  • Thorough knowledge of utilizing business applications for competitive advantage
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of business needs and strategies
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Technical proficiency in hardware and systems software
  • Strong customer focus and ability to manage client expectations
  • Ability to present and explain technical information in a way that establishes rapport, persuades others, and gains understanding
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills at all management levels
  • Ability to multi-task
