Job Description

The Network Architect is primarily responsible for the design, alteration, and security of all network and unified communications infrastructure across the enterprise. Interfacing at the business level as well as with the technical side to produce the blueprint for a complex, large-scale, integrated network and voice infrastructure.

How You'll Spend Your Time

  • Strategy:  You’ll closely work with the network operations team to advance a multi-year network playbook and associated roadmap to continuously improve our network performance, system resiliency and customer experience. 
  • Projects: You’ll implement projects, systems, and issues of medium to high complexity surrounding network planning, configuration and optimization including keeping disaster recovery plans up-to-date, as required, and configuring the network to support recovery objectives to ensure business continuity
  • Operations: You’ll communicate with operational support teams as required, keep them informed of incident progress and notify them of impending changes or outages.
  • Process Improvements: You’ll schedule and coordinate corrective and routine maintenance on critical network, Disaster Recovery and voice systems with appropriate vendors, customers, and support organizations.
  • Security and Risk: You'll perform network risk assessments, implement tech solutions, and assist with internal or external network security audits, Disaster Recovery testing, and maintenance.

Essential Duties

  • Work closely with business lines to determine business process and productivity needs and an appropriate technology strategy to support business goals.
  • Work with technical project management to architect networks that effectively reflect business needs, service-level and availability requirements, and other technology parameters.
  • Effective communication skills to work with third parties to bring resolution to complex issues
  • Develop reporting metrics, roadmaps, standards, annual budgets, and processes based on industry best practices.
  • Establish governing principles, standards, and processes for network design and deployment.
  • Participate in selection of unified communication products and standards with other team members.
  • Lead teams of senior network engineers in developing detailed designs and quality-control mechanisms for unified communication implementations.
  • Communicate the role and value of the network and voice infrastructure to the organization and present the business case for technology investments.
  • Continually update understanding of business and technology status and objectives and respond to strategic design requests as the business evolves.
  • Works within project design teams and technical project managers.
  • Understands industry best practices and mentors IT colleagues.
  • Has in-depth understanding of business strategy and ability to interact effectively with senior business managers and C-level executives.

Education & Experience Requirements

This level of knowledge is normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Technology/Science and typically has 7 to 10 years IT work experience as technical system support and network administration or 13-16 years work related experience.
