The Retirement Plan Services Operations Manager (RPS) is a multi-incumbent position and is primarily responsible for management level coordination and oversight of all participant recordkeeping activities related to employee benefit defined contribution plans, ensuring compliance with the individual plan documents, applicable laws and regulations, and Wealth Management policies; works closely with representatives of other departments, particularly Institutional Wealth Management Relationship Managers and Sales personnel, as well as the various units within Wealth Management Services and other Operations & Technology partners, in converting new plans, implementing plan feature enhancements and providing special services for existing client relationships.

  1. Manages the work of area personnel; determines priorities; schedules work assignments; evaluates work performance of subordinate personnel, and recommends associated personnel actions; creates and implements development plan for each employee to ensure retention of key personnel. Exempt level supervisory personnel directly report to this position.
  2. Provides level oversight for special recordkeeping projects for large clients with unique requirements; assumes responsibility for developing specific service or performance expectations; creates action plans and time tables for implementation of significant plan changes (i.e., new loan provisions, additional investment options or fund sources, mapping of funds to new investment options, etc.); determines timetables and enters into commitments for bringing plans out of blackout, providing exception processing and/or services.
  3. Assumes responsibility for all department operations; researches and resolves complex problems which require considerable judgment and handling beyond staff experience and knowledge. Assures resolution of technical problems related to work and equipment. Addresses plan level issues which involve specific policy concerns; approves exceptions warranted to resolve particularly complex or contentious participant or plan sponsor issues, consulting with legal, technical, plan administration or management as needed; works with Relationship Management Team Leaders or Managers and Auditors to resolve ongoing policy concerns which have not been screened through normal Administrative channels.

  • Extensive knowledge of recordkeeping systems and processing capabilities
  • Advanced knowledge of employee benefit laws and regulations for defined contribution plans, recordkeeping systems and processes
  • Thorough knowledge of programming principles (databases, report writers) necessary to build Omni calculators
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles, securities processing and/or asset valuation
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills
  • Advanced ability to analyze data and solve complex problems within framework of plan documentation and government regulations
  • Very advanced team building skills, demonstrated ability to realize increased efficiencies through automation
This level of knowledge is normally acquired through completion of a Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Finance and 6-8 years experience in employee benefit recordkeeping including 2-3 years in a supervisory capacity, or 12-14 years of related experience.
