Job Description

The Scrum Master will support 1 - 3 delivery teams within a fast-paced product development driven environment. This role is intended to help a team of problem solvers achieve their goals as high performing product delivery teams, creating a culture of self-organization and continued improvement. The person in this role ensures clear communication and organization of the team, and coaching of team members in all aspects of the standard Agile Manifesto and Scrum framework.

How You'll Spend Your Time

  • You’ll implement Scrum as a framework for software development in IT delivery teams.
  • You will facilitate all Scrum events and ceremonies including Sprint planning, Grooming, Retrospective, Refinement, and daily stand-ups.
  • You’ll lead all Scrum events such as sprint planning, grooming, retrospective, refinement, and daily stand-ups.
  • You will ensure that responsibilities and accountability for crucial roles in the program/project are distinctly outlined.
  • You will lead the team in establishing feasible goals for feature and sprint timelines, while consistently managing the expectations of the team and stakeholders.
  • You will guide the team towards self-organization and continuous improvement.
  • You will enhance team performance by resolving obstacles, managing conflicts, aiding in decision-making, and promoting continuous improvement.
  • You will actively spot and address risks that could hinder the achievement of goals and engage the team to mitigate those risks.
  • You will engage in multidirectional communication and negotiation to influence and achieve team goals.
  • You will cultivate a culture of rapid innovation and ongoing enhancement.
  • You will oversee the team’s advancement towards Roadmap and Sprint goals through Scrum metrics and contribute to status reports as required.
  • You will provide input to help identify and form future Scrum teams.
  • You will be a key player in the company’s growing Agile community, facilitating change and aiding others in their Agile journey.
  • You will persistently enhance your skills to proficiently implement Scrum methodologies.

 Scrum Team Facilitation (75%)
o    Work “arm-in-arm” with scrum teams you are responsible for and Product Owners to align on roadmap and delivery
o    Work closely with a co-scrum master to coordinate work and teams across the Nexus
o    Enables Scrum as a software development framework for IT delivery teams
o    Facilitates all Scrum events and ceremonies including Refinement, Sprint Planning, Retrospective, and Daily Stand-ups
o    Works cross functionally to align strategy, methodology and execution 
o    Work across teams in our Nexus (scaled agile model), and teams across the bank to plan and deliver sprint items
o    Ensures clearly defined responsibilities and accountability for key roles 
o    Guides the team in the setting of realistic objectives for Feature and Sprint delivery timeframes and continually manages expectations with team and stakeholders
o    Coaches the team to learn, improve and to work as a self-organizing team
o    Facilitates team health, effectiveness and efficiency by removing impediments, mediating through conflicts, helping teams to make decisions and adhering to continuous improvement principles
o    Proactively identifies risks to the attainment of Feature and Sprint goals and engages the team in mitigating risks
o    Communicates, influences and negotiates both vertically and horizontally in support of team objectives
o    Fosters speed, innovation and encourages continuous learning and feedback
o    Tracks and monitors team’s progress towards Roadmap and Sprint objectives via Scrum metric reports (e.g., Burndown and Velocity charts; Delivery Trends) and delivers input to status reports as required
o    Maximize use of agile tooling to provide transparency and meaningful metrics
o    Provides input to help identify and form future Scrum teams

o    Actively contributes to the Company’s expanding Agile Community acting as a change agent by supporting others in their Agile journey 
o    Continuously broadens capabilities to effectively apply agile techniques 
o    Demonstrates continuous learning and improvement; encourages other team members to do the same
o    Contribute to a vibrant and healthy team culture, where team members can be curious and grow their careers

 May perform other duties as assigned
 

Education & Experience Requirements

This level of knowledge is normally acquired through completion of a ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Business Administration or related discipline. Achieved Certified Scrum Master Certification (CSM) or SAFe Scrum Master Certification (SSM) or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 2 to 4 years’ experience with broad range of technical and business environments
  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a Scrum Master leading Agile Scrum teams
  • Experience with Agile Toolsets (Atlassian tool suite, specifically JIRA and Confluence)
  • Operating in an environment that requires cross team/department collaboration
  • Adequate knowledge of project management methodologies with demonstrated experience coordinating team work flow in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment
  • Working knowledge of software development life cycles
  • Established ability to understand business needs and create a clear, coherent approach to guide effective program/initiative setup, execution, and control
  • Established ability to utilize sound business judgement and tailor approach to drive optimal business outcomes
  • Established ability to influence change within an organization
  • Self-motivation, discipline, task focus, and a proven record of delivering high quality results within strict deadlines as well as within budget
  • Intellectual curiosity; problem-solving abilities and attention to detail; and prompt follow-through
  • Solid conceptual thinking and analytical skills with the ability to analyze problems that include interrelationships and dependencies in order to identify solutions
  • Good oral and written communication skills with ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization from Scrum team members to executives
  • Moderate leadership skills and experience effectively collaborating with highly technical teams
