Senior Manager, Corporate Tax

The Senior Manager, Corporate Tax has responsibility for managing federal, state, regulatory and SEC ASC 740 tax accounting and compliance, tax research, planning, and special projects such as mergers and acquisitions, sale/use tax processes, and federal and state tax audits. Position will require expert knowledge of federal and state tax compliance, tax accounting for external financial statements as well as meeting strict internal/external filing deadlines.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Manages complex tax and accounting analysis for tax planning efforts including planning effective rate calculation and reserve analysis for interim and annual tax reporting including SOX 404, internal controls and other regulatory compliance. Evaluates the financial implications of planning activities. Communicates with audits of tax returns by state and tax authorities as needed.
  2. Manages quarterly and year-end federal and state tax accrual, participates in year-end consolidated tax accrual and maintenance of tax accounts to ensure correct financial GAAP and tax reporting. Supervises federal and state income, and sales/use process. Monitors tax legislation and keeps informed to tax laws, regulations and rulings pertaining to federal and state income taxes and evaluates the potential impact on the company and communicated to others.
  3. Provides support for various areas of the bank in addressing questions related to a variety of tax issues; provides technical support to others in the Tax department. Reviews new transactions, tax credit opportunities including review of related tax opinions. In charge of maintenance and implementation of corporate wide systems for gathering and maintaining compliance information as bank systems, corporate structure, and income tax laws change/evolve.
  4. Takes lead in the research and analysis of proposed and existing business transactions to determine the effect upon taxes. Manages and performs special projects such as those related to such business transactions, new tax and accounting laws and regulations, refund opportunities, information reporting etc.
  5. Prepares technical position papers and formulates tax policy and procedures. Takes lead role in tax due diligence process and mergers and acquisition issues.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of municipal, state, and federal income tax laws and regulations including strong tax research skills
  • Knowledge of tax implications regarding mergers and acquisitions and employee benefits
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of prevailing GAAP and ASC 740, FIN 48
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills and the ability to work as a team to meet strict deadlines
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, decision making and organizational skills
  • Excellent microcomputer application and spreadsheet software skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Good supervisory skills
CPA certification and 8+ years work experience in a corporate tax department or public accounting (tax) environment including 3+ years in a supervisory capacity. CPA certification generally requires a Master’s degree with a minimum of 30 hours concentrated in accounting and related studies.
